Newly Qualified Social Worker - Children’s Services

Newly Qualified Social Worker - Children’s Services York, England

City of York Council
Full Time York, England 33812 - 38305 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

The City of York Council Children’s Services Department are looking for Newly Qualified Social Workers to join us in our next social work academy. We are keen to hear from those who have qualified as a social worker within the last 2 years who have not already completed their ASYE, or students who will have completed their qualification by September 2023.

Working in one of our children’s services teams you will have a protected caseload and the support of your manager and colleagues. As a member of the Social Work Academy, you will complete the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme, a 12-month employment-based programme of support and assessment for Social workers in their first year of employment. (Please note the ASYE is a 12-month full time programme, therefore an NQSW working less than 37 hours per week would take longer to complete their ASYE).

Our commitment to you will include a full induction in the academy, regular training days and individual protected development time throughout the year. You will have access to your own mentor who will support you to work towards your own personal development plan, and who will facilitate monthly peer group workshops.

You will be provided with IT resources to enable you to work flexibly between council offices and working from home as needed.

Upon successful completion of your ASYE programme, you will become a Social Worker (Grade 9) with the City of York Council. You will then continue to be part of the Social Work Academy and benefit from our supported second year in practice programme which will continue to offer mentoring, development days and peer group workshops.

Ranked within the top 10 places to live in the UK, YORK is a vibrant, trailblazing, digital City which continues to make history.

Our unique location means the Dales, Moors and Coast are all within an hour offering a positive work life balance.

You can look forward to a generous pay and reward package including:

  • A competitive salary
  • Local government pension scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Up to 29 days annual leave entitlement
  • Family friendly policies
  • Salary sacrifice schemes to assist with childcare
  • Assistance with travel to work expenses
  • Staff benefits package
  • Manageable, monitored caseloads.
  • Supported working environment
  • Regular reflective supervision.
  • Training and development opportunities, including coaching
  • Progression opportunities
  • Strong leadership

The Council is highly committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition, we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For further information or an informal discussion please contact Lesley Furnival, Practice Development Manager, [email protected] or Natasha Naylor, Advanced Social Work Practitioner, [email protected]

Closing date: Sunday 26 March 2023 at 12 midnight
