Look to the future with a University that will support your research interests and development of your academic career.

Have you got a passion for Electrical and Electronic Engineering? Can you share your knowledge with clarity and enthusiasm? Then we have a great opportunity for you to build up a research career that will transform into a Lecturer post after three years.

The University of Southampton is a unique place in which to explore what you are capable of. Inspiring and supporting you to develop your teaching skills; in turn you'll motivate students to explore their strengths, we open up a wealth of opportunities for the most inquisitive minds – including yours.

As one of the world’s top 1% of universities, we know what it takes to create an exceptional student experience. Encouraging our students to question conventional thinking, we underpin our exceptional academic courses with a dynamic culture of innovation and research. This is an ethos that we roll out to our staff too, and as such, we enjoy a uniquely collaborative team-spirit in which our colleagues support one another in their endeavours. This progressive approach plays a vital role in maintaining our reputation for shaping knowledge in a wide variety of areas, including our highly-respected programmes.

Join us, and you’ll be able to shape a role that enables you to develop your teaching skills over a period of five years – three as a New Frontiers Fellow – and an additional two with an increasing but lighter teaching load whilst you build up your research profile.

To make the most of this incredible opportunity, you will need to be PhD qualified, or you will have a relevant professional qualification. You’ll demonstrate a passion for developing the skills to deliver exceptional teaching. It is important that you have great communication skills with the ability to engage in developing a research career.

In turn, we will provide the support you need to enable you to be successful which will include access to high-performance computing resources, funds for travel and expenses and developing expertise in teaching by completing PGCAP.

We are recruiting New Frontiers Fellows as part of our strategy to grow capacity in areas around sustainable electronics and systems, including quantum electronics, energy security and reliability, power electronics and communications. There will be a comprehensive package of support for the fellows within a wider cohort.

Athena SWAN Bronze Award recognised, we’re committed to improving equality for women in science and engineering, so we’ll help you find a good work-life balance with flexible or even part-time working hours, with a workload adjusted accordingly.
