Reporting to: Network Development & Delivery Manager
You’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting Active Cabinet Rollout through completion of low level tasks.
- Managing configuration documents.
- Producing designs based on templates.
- Project control for small delivery tasks.
- Supporting the Evolution of the Network.
- Working with suppliers to track availability of key active equipment to aid forecasting.
- Maintaining catalogue of components and suppliers.
- Working with the warehouse team to ensure stock levels are maintained on key network components.
- Performing trials and testing of new technologies based on agreed test scripts.
- Maintaining the lab environment and test equipment.
- Performing ad hoc tasks to support the design of the network, such as cabinet audits.
- Supporting the growth the Truespeed Network.
- Cataloguing network inventory.
- Capacity tracking of network equipment and network performance.
- Supporting maintenance of the Live Network.
- Understanding best practice within the Truespeed network, from cabinet deployment, fibre planning, active equipment installation, to customer install
- Understanding the function of the Network Operation Centre and be capable of stepping in on support activities as required.
- Performing network administration tasks in support of customer installation.
- Supporting the evolution of Processes.
- Managing processes. Tracking and reporting progress and escalating deviations from targets and SLAs.
- Undertake training programme to take on increasing level of responsibility in terms of network design, configuration and support of the active network.
What skills I’ll bring to the role:
- Recently qualified or experienced in network administration roles, with desire to evolve into a full Network Engineer.
- Experience working in an Internet Service Provider or Data Centre following best practices
- Understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
- Technical knowledge in matters relating to optical ethernet, IP transmission and routing (including ISIS and BGP)
- Familiarity with major network vendor
- Understanding of optical fibre network FTTH and DWDM technology, enabling troubleshooting of faults and performance issues
- Experience in staging and testing of networking equipment
- Experience working within Unix-like environments (ie Linux, FreeBSD)
- Experience of using automation tools, and the DevOps approach to infrastructure orchestration
- The aptitude to work to a high standard autonomously or within a team
- Team player, building positive relationships internally, with suppliers and customers
- Pro-active, can-do attitude, always going the extra mile
- Ability to communicate clearly and present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications :
- Equivalent of CCNA level of certification is desirable but not essential
