
Network Maintenance Operative (Sewerage) Shieldhall, Scotland

Our response teams are responsible for preventing, investigating and resolving all customer related issues. Our vision is to deliver our service effectively and efficiently whilst ensuring we deliver the best service to customers with minimum disruption in the safest manner.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, flexible hard working individual to join the Sewer Response team within Wastewater Customer Service Delivery. You will be involved in maintaining and restoring the flow in the sewer networks. You will be responsible for carrying out single person choke clearing activities, high pressure water jetting and a variety of other tasks including CCTV investigations.
This role is primarily field based and contains an element of lone working. Full training and protection will be provided to enable you to carry out the role.
As an Operative, you will be responsible for the execution of site work ensuring maintenance and fault finding on networks is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. You will make sure that all work complies with the relevant H&S safety processes and working practices to eliminate or minimise risks to health, safety and welfare of themselves, other employees and general public who come in contact with their site works.
In addition you will carry out site specific risk assessments, carry out relevant vehicle and plant checks before use and ensure the most efficient and effective use of resources including labour, plant and material.
This role is being advertised on a full term contract basis where you will work up to 37 hours per week.
Candidates interested in this role must be able to participate in a standby rota ensuring Scottish Water maintains cover 365 days per year
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours
This role requires someone who can listen, empathise, assist customers to help best resolve the problems reported and recover any issues with the potential for reputational impact. The successful candidate should be confident, personable and have excellent communication, organisational and customer service skills. In addition the role holder should be capable of managing complex situations, work effectively as part of a team and have proficient IT skills.
In this role you will communicate with internal and external customers in regard to work being carried out on site. Giving progress reports where necessary and always ensuring our customers get excellent service.
- Have strong problem solving skills and a dedication to find a solution to any issues that arise within the site.
- Have experience or an understanding of working within a strong Health & Safety culture to ensure that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Be a quick learner, with the ability to use new computer systems and on-line learning modules which are essential to the role.
- Be a strong team player, who can work well with others to achieve common goals.
- The ability to plan and prioritise your work, whilst maintaining flexibility to accommodate changing priorities.
- The ability to find creative and innovative solutions to issues by evaluating all of the evidence and information available to develop a way forward.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours:
- Drainage experience with use of high-pressure water jetting units. Preferably with HPWJ association training.
- Beneficial to your application would be if you hold a Class C driving licence with up to date CPC and digital tachograph cards.
