About the role
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Network Analyst to join our team at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.
You will primarily be involved in:
- Maintaining our extensive network, including over 100 Extreme Networks switches, 160 WiFi access points, Palo Alto firewalls, and EfficientIP DHCP servers.
- Assisting with project work and network development activities.
- Assisting the Infrastructure team with server deployments.
- Assisting our Servicedesk to resolve network related queries.
- Trouble-shooting network issues using network management and monitoring tools and supporting our users with network related queries.
- Hardware contract management and purchasing.
- Liaising with our contracted suppliers, their support desks and engineers.
There will be opportunities to work on challenging user and IT led projects, developing systems as required by the organisation or providing network solutions and support to public events such as our open days and the Ocean Business international conference hosted by NOC.
In addition to developing your IT skills, you will also receive various health and safety training including manual handling, working at heights and in confined spaces. Due to the complexity of the building, much of our equipment is in mechanical distribution areas around the site.
There will be opportunities to attend professional briefings, conferences and work with colleagues at our Liverpool site and in partner organisations.
About you
You will have experience of working with a LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructure in an enterprise, academic or specialist setting with knowledge of switching and routing, firewall administration and WiFi infrastructure. A working knowledge of Linux operating systems is desirable.
We need a friendly, confident communicator, someone able to produce technical documentation in various formats and share knowledge remotely, in writing or in person with IT professionals and a vari-skilled client base across the organisation.
You will have good analytical and organisational skills and a practical approach, able to work independently in a dynamic environment.
You will have an IT related degree or equivalent experience in a network environment.

This position will be based in Southampton. The centre is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking.
