Position Title: IT Network Administrator
Department: I.T
Reports To: Senior IT Manager, Security and Architecture, Americas & EMEA

Description:

The Canadian Solar Inc. IT department is responsible for the delivery of critical IT systems and services for the North American, European, and Australian Regions. As a member of the IT team, the incumbent is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of data and voice networks to ensure the ongoing availability, reliability, and security of the Canadian Solar information assets in a cost-effective manner. The incumbent is also responsible for the design, security, planning, and troubleshooting of the infrastructure systems.

Responsibilities:

  • The administrator will assist in the design, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of all voice and data hardware and software services including but not limited to:
  • Networking services such as Switches LAN, WAN, SD-WAN and Internet infrastructure, inter-office communications, wireless infrastructure, Physical and logical Access Control and Security infrastructure, Fiber Optic backbone, Transparent LAN services, etc.
  • Voice services such as the selection and management of carriers, establishing device standards, and device selection.
  • Security services such as switches, firewalls, and mobile VPN configuration and support.
  • Logging, monitoring, and reporting of all related devices for all North American and European locations, Active Directory, and internet access.
  • Additionally, provide backup support for the System Administrator and Technical Support Team in situations when workload demands require it.
  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain all hardware and software supported by the Communications team including but not limited to: Firewalls, routers, switches, authentication devices (ACS), mobile VPN and other remote access systems, telephony systems, encryption solutions, and VOIP.
  • Maintain the internal Fortinet LAN and WLAN and Aryaka SD-WAN.
  • Management and Maintenance of hyper-converged infrastructure / Nutanix - VMWare
  • Maintain the 3CX VoIP Telephony system and all administration associated with device setup and support.
  • Implement platform-level security in accordance with corporate security policies and industry best practices. Participate in scheduled security compliance audits.
  • Perform network-related security administration (user accounts and passwords) as required.
  • Oversee services provided by external service providers and work performed by contractors.
  • Lead, participate in, or provide input to projects as assigned. Activities may include developing project proposals, preparing detailed project plans, developing budget estimates, preparing status reporting, assisting other team members, etc.
  • Implement effective network monitoring capabilities that identify system failures, and security violations, track system performance and facilitate capacity and storage planning.
  • Communicate opportunities for improved leveraging of hardware, software, and support resources including standardization with the Director of IT or Management.
  • Maintain familiarity with related industry trends and best practices.
  • Hardware and software planning and selection, including upgrades and replacements.
  • Provide input into the IT budgeting process.
  • Participate in security compliance reviews.
  • Participate in weekly change review planning meetings.
  • Maintain documentation covering all aspects of the Communications function, including but not limited to the configuration management database covering all firewalls and routers, network schematic diagrams, administration procedures, etc.
  • Ensure that all operational and service level objectives are monitored and achieved (e.g. turnaround time for security requests).
  • Help and participate in developing and maintaining company standards pertaining to the design and support of local area networks (LAN), remote access, and other network-related systems.
  • Adhere to all corporate IT policies, practices, and procedures as required. This includes information security, change control, and other related policies.
  • Ensure that an effective backup and recovery program is established to ensure that all voice and data services can be effectively restored in accordance with business requirements. Furthermore, this process must be tested on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and testing of disaster recovery plans.
  • Provide level 1 and 2 help desk support for all assigned problems.
  • Ensure all system problems are logged and tracked in accordance with problem management procedures. Participate in trend/root cause analysis and correction.
  • Provide backup support for the Systems Administration and Client Support areas as required and participate in resolving critical incidents and emergency changes.
  • Provide occasional after-hour and weekend support as required, and travel to other Canadian Solar Inc. sites and training conferences as deemed necessary.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Canadian Solar Code of Business Conduct or corporate policies and procedures.
  • Takes direction from Senior Network Administrator, Security.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Work may be scheduled, or emergencies may arise where out-of-normal business hours will be required due to the global nature of our work.****

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A post–secondary technology diploma or engineering degree, or equivalent, specializing in computers, networking, or information systems. Industry Standard certifications such as Network+, CCNA, or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Expert knowledge of voice and data communications, routing, switching, routed, and routing protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of security and encryption disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of technical management processes (change control, disaster recovery planning, security administration)
  • Strong knowledge of related desktop, network, and operations disciplines Skilled in verbal, written, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of IT Architectural design, definition, and implementation strategies.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging IT technologies across a broad range of IT disciplines, including, hardware, software, networking, operating systems, applications development, and database management and design.
  • Knowledge of key business processes and a strong understanding of the technical requirements for those key processes.
  • Working knowledge of project management best practices.
