The SBTi is looking for a (Senior) Project Officer to join the highly motivated net-zero team at the Science Based Targets initiative. The (Senior) Project Officer will report to the Net-Zero Manager and will work with the team that recently developed the SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard - the first standard for setting corporate net-zero targets in line with climate science.
About you
We are looking for an ambitious and mission-driven Net-Zero (Senior) Project Officer who will provide important support to integrate the Corporate Net-Zero Standard into the initiative as well as the wider climate action ecosystem. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Net-Zero Manager with critical tasks including project management, developing presentations and briefings, research, responding to technical queries, and helping with resource updates related to the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.
This is a varied role with lots of opportunity to grow and develop a career in corporate climate action, whilst being involved in exciting projects alongside passionate and knowledgeable colleagues.
About the SBTi
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets. Key responsibilities include:
- Support to develop and update resources related to the Net-Zero Standard
- Develop presentations and briefings
- Support with research tasks and writing technical materials on a large variety of net-zero related topics such as science-based pathways and target setting, GHG accounting, neutralization, beyond value chain mitigation
Respond to technical queries related to net-zero (e.g. on GHG accounting, target setting)- Support with project management incl. use and maintenance of SBTi project management and collaboration tools (e.g. Asana, Slack, Google Drive, etc.)
- Help coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate net zero throughout the SBTi and other organisations across the net-zero ecosystem
- Responsibilities may vary based on the organisation’s needs
Essential skills and experience needed:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
- 1-5 years relevant work experience in sustainability, climate change, corporate climate disclosure and/or ESG
- Experience in science-based targets, greenhouse gas accounting (preferably in line with the GHG Protocol), net-zero and corporate climate strategy
- Fluency in English with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to digest and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Highly organised, understand concepts easily, keen attention to detail
- Proactive team player able to work under pressure and to a high standard
- Creates consistency and can prioritise, flexible and able to work independently in an international and multicultural remote work environment
Desirable skills and experience:
- Existing knowledge of the SBTi resources and GHG Protocol will be a plus
- Experience in corporate climate action space
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent)
What we offer:
- Salary Range dependent on location & level of experience (UK: £25,967 - £45,940, Germany: €33,319 - €56,760). Full-time role based in UK or Germany (remote or in offices in London or Berlin). Fixed-term contract for 12 months with the possibility of extension.
