Job title: Non-Destructive Examination Assistant
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base -We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements
Salary: Up to £34,660 depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Ensure compliance with NDEC Local Rules, Ionising Radiation Regulations, Health and Safety and other relevant safety regulations at all times
- Maintain and update the NDEC Task Requisition Spreadsheet to a high standard
- Proof Reading NDE Reports and identifying administrative errors
- Manage NDE Radiation Protection Equipment Calibration – Ensuring radiation protection equipment is kept in date for calibration
- Radiography Dark room Duties including machine maintenance, chemical replacements and checks, loading and unloading of radiographic film cassette and development of radiographic films
Your skills and experiences:
- Have Quality Control (QC) understanding with regard to product governance
- Have a background in engineering and have completed a recognised apprenticeship of a recognised constructive trade (platers, fabricators and welders)
- Ideally have awareness of Non Destructive Examination processes such as; Magnetic Particle Inspection, Dye Penetrant Inspection, Ultrasonic Inspection, Radiographic Inspection, Basic Radiation Safety and Visual Inspection
- Have an awareness of SHE knowledge and hold relevant required gold passport qualifications and history of Risk Assessment and Method Statements skills and functional knowledge

The NDE team:
You will be joining a team of 11 and working alongside 4 other NDE operators and 1 NDE Technician and you will be supporting the Maritime Business of BAE Systems through welding inspection and Non Destructive Examinations to ensure all quality is upheld. This role offers an opportunity to make it your own and provide an insight into how the business and customer (Royal Navy) operate. There is progression opportunities within the role and the wider business as a whole.
