About the job

Job summary

At GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of data and communications to keep the UK and its citizens safe, both in the real world and online. Working closely with our British Intelligence partners in MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from threats including serious organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. A role in GCHQ means you’ll have varied and fascinating work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The organisation is at the heart of the Government’s cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and work online.

We are recruiting an Engagement Manager for the Industry Assurance Team (IAT).

The Industry Assurance Team’s goal is to play its part to keep the UK safe from cyber threats, increasing the NCSC’s reach by harnessing the UK’s Cyber Security Industry.

IAT is doing this by building and supporting a catalogue of assured cyber security products and services that help organisations achieve good cyber security that is appropriate to the threats they face. We are also supporting a thriving UK Cyber Security Industry by licencing the NCSC brand so consumers know who and what they can trust.

The Engagement Lead will:

  • Be responsible for building a strategic narrative and engagement strategy to highlight the important work that IAT does both within NCSC and externally.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders across the breadth of services offered by IAT.
  • Ensure IAT is represented within the cyber ecosystem at annual events internally and externally.
  • Ensure consistent language and brand is used across all of the products and services that IAT is responsible for.

Job description

As the Engagement Lead, you will continue to build IAT’s compelling narrative to show why the services provided are so important for cyber security in the UK. This involves you creating and maintaining an engagement plan with regular stakeholder meetings both internally and externally across industry and other government departments.

Deciding on the stories to share, tailoring communications to a variety of stakeholders and making sure that what the Industry Assurance Team does is known and its positive impact is critical to the success of this role.

Being part of the cyber ecosystem is an important part of Industry Assurance’s role, therefore the organisation of events and engagements to further increase knowledge are also at the heart of this role.

Person specification

The successful applicant will have:

  • A background in forging excellent relationships at all levels and across a diverse stakeholder landscape.
  • The ability to listen to a wealth of information and discern the most important information to be shared, tailoring this, as needed, to the required audience.
  • The ability to prioritise complex and competing demands.
  • Communications or engagement experience, whether professionally or personally.

In addition:

  • Experience of working with industry and/or government department would be advantageous particularly in a stakeholder management or engagement role.
  • Experience of organising events, particularly a complex one is desirable.

GCHQ Competency Requirements

The NCSC will assess you against competencies used by the UK Intelligence Community. These competencies are based closely on the Civil Service Behaviours. The competencies you will be assessed against are:

  • Driving Innovation and Change (Civil Service Behaviour Equivalent: Changing and Improving) Level 3
  • Continuously Developing (Civil Service Behaviour Equivalent: Developing Self and Others) Level 3
  • Communicating and Influencing (Civil Service Behaviour Equivalent: Communicating and Influencing) level 3
  • Working Collaboratively (Civil Service Behaviour Equivalent: Working Together) Level 3
  • Providing Customer Value (Civil Service Behaviour Equivalent: Managing a Quality Service) Level 3
