The role of the Network Technician is to work as part of a team to run the assigned department efficiently and accurately and achieve compliance with all internal and external guidelines and regulations.

There will be a need for a mix of hands-on support of network infrastructure as well as liaising with our external service providers and international colleagues.

Your New Role

  • Provide first and second level support for LAN/WAN/WLAN across 13 Regional Distribution Centres and over 1,100 Stores
  • Execute rollout plans in conjunction with International IT, regions and external suppliers as directed
  • Support the National IT Specialists in the documentation of existing business processes and workflows
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes in consultation with the National IT Manager
  • Maintain an understanding of the user requirements and open issues for area of responsibilities
  • Test hardware and program updates to verify whether newly implemented requirements and existing functionality operate without errors
  • Co-ordinate and direct consultants, contractors, vendors and suppliers as required, including the raising of purchase orders for goods and services
  • Make recommendations to the National IT Manager on new technologies
  • Perform system maintenance which will occasionally fall outside of normal business hours
  • Support and maintenance of systems, conducting daily checks to ensure seamless operation
  • You will also be required to carry out any other duties requested of you by your direct line manager


About You

  • A basic understanding of Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies, such as routing, MPLS and SD-WAN
  • An understanding of Network Firewall Technologies
  • Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) technologies, especially Juniper and Cisco Meraki
  • Has a basic understanding of Wireless LAN technologies, especially, Extreme Wi-Fi (formally Zebra/Motorola) and Cisco Meraki
  • Understanding of network cable patching
  • Previous experience with, or knowledge of, supporting Wireless LANs (e.g. troubleshooting device connectivity issues)
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to effectively prioritise and execute tasks whilst under pressure
  • Has an inquisitive nature, and driven to perform to the best of your abilities
  • Keen to take ownership and responsibility whilst working effectively within a team
  • Be logical and efficient, with a keen eye for detail

  • Salary starting from £29,680 rising to £33,170
  • 5-day/40-hour week, working Monday- Friday, with the opportunity for remote working 3 days per week.
