Job description
A wonderful live-out nanny position has become available in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. This professional family is extremely friendly, active, and sporty with a love of the outdoors and country life. They also enjoy travelling. They have a Cocker Spaniel dog who is part of the family, so a love of dogs is essential.
They are looking for a kind and friendly nanny who can stay long-term and become part of their happy family unit. They feel the most important thing is to find a nanny who will fit well into their lives. The nanny should be a team player, a good communicator, creative and active, fun, and knowledgeable about babies and toddlers, childhood milestones, weaning and potty training.
You will be caring for a little girl, aged one, and a new baby due in January 2024. The little girl currently goes to nursery two days a week, which she loves. While Mum is at home, this will be a shared care role.
To begin with, the ideal hours will be 08.00 – 18.00, three days a week, increasing over the coming months. However, if the right candidate comes along and seems to be a perfect fit for the role, the family will consider making it a full-time position from the beginning. There will also be some overtime on offer, which may include working on Saturdays from time to time. All overtime will be paid.
Flexibility in this role is a must. Mum will sometimes leave the children with you to go off and do her own thing. Other times, she will take one child with her while you stay behind to carry out some nursery duties. There may also be times when you all do something together. When the new baby is born, the role will change again a little, so a flexible and adaptable nanny is essential.
The parents are keen for their children to learn and develop in a balanced way, hitting their various developmental milestones—with lots of educational and stimulating indoor fun (sensory games, reading stories, singing songs, crafts, etc.) mixed with plenty of outside play and walks in the fresh air. As the children get older, the parents would like them to attend play dates and groups to interact with other children, ensuring their happiness and safety at all times. A nanny who is interested in child development is essential.
The family live in a five-bedroom house with plenty of indoor and outdoor space for the children to use. They are centrally located with activities for children within a short drive. As they employ a cleaner, this role will only involve nursery duties, but some help to keep the house running smoothly would be appreciated—emptying the dishwasher, making sure all rooms are tidy at the end of the day, etc.
Along with keeping all areas used clean and organised (kitchen, washing and preparing bottles, children’s bedrooms, playroom, etc.), the nursery duties include keeping on top of the children’s laundry. You will provide the children with healthy and nutritious meals each day, prepared from scratch as often as possible. As the new baby grows, these meals are to be blended if required (age-appropriate), with plenty made in advance and frozen for the parents to use for the baby at the weekend.
You should be a careful and confident driver with a fully insured car. Duty mileage will be paid.
This is a fabulous role and would suit someone who is happy to make a long-term commitment.
