About the Role

Purpose of the job

To develop, manage, preserve, and interpret existing collections, overseeing cataloguing to the required standards in order to maintain museum accreditation.

What the job actually requires -

  • Cataloguing the collections and creating and enhancing records on the CALM archival and museum database
  • Conducting an inventory and updating permanent displays
  • Answering public enquiries
  • Opening and closing and maintaining the security of the museum buildings and collections
  • Providing cover for frontline services and front of house duties as necessary

The team and the purpose of the team -

The Heritage Service team is a small, friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated team passionate about the heritage of KIngston and working with colleagues across Culture and Heritage to engage the local community, and the wider world, in their rich history. We have 11 staff working at the Kingston History Centre and Kingston Museum.

About You

Any essential qualifications, experience and skills you are looking for in your successful candidate -

Education to degree level with a postgraduate qualification in Museum Studies (or equivalent). Demonstrable experience of cataloguing to SPECTRUM standards and in-depth knowledge of CALM or similar museum databases to an administration level. Demonstrable experience of working in a cultural & heritage sector organisation and a good understanding of the heritage sector. Experience of working with and supporting the Arts Council’s UK Museum Accreditation process. Experience of community engagement and outreach work to support the curation of diverse collections and associated outputs. Able to actively engage in positive cross organisational communication and team working and able to communicate with a range of stakeholders.
