Job description
The Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre (MSSSC) was established in 2012 and is housed in the Stopford Building at the University of Manchester on Oxford Road. The Centre has extensive modern facilities largely focused on craft (interventional) training needs. Facilities include a lecture room with capacity for 40 (pre-COVID); A-V links within facility and external (MRI); operating tables; a wide range of surgical equipment including endoscopic (arthro-, lap-, sinus). A key facet is the ability and focus to utilise human cadavers for training and simulation, under the auspices of the required HTA licence.
The MSSSC closed in early 2020 and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has been successful in gaining funding to re-open as a pilot to assess the long-term viability of the Centre.
Working under the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Anatomy licence, the main purpose of the role will be supporting the preparation and provision of human cadavers, animal tissue, surgical apparatus, equipment and other materials for training courses delivered by the Manchester Surgical Skills Simulation Centre.
The postholder will work under supervision to prepare training materials (including human cadavers and animal tissues) for a wide variety of training courses; assist course organisers (e.g. with surgical apparatus) during the running of courses; cleaning and tidying the dissection room once courses have finished.
