Capability: Deal Advisory

Job description

Major Projects Advisory (MPA) is a rapidly growing team within our Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) that provides in-depth advice on the strategic, financial, and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across transport, power and utilities, and social infrastructure in the UK and internationally. Both MPA and IAG sit within our Deal Advisory service.

Our MPA team specialises in providing clarity to Boards, Executives and SRO’s at major public and private sector organisations, on the delivery of some of the UK’s most strategically important programmes, in particular we are seeing an increasing demand to support our clients through business change and digital transformation, complemented by our deep infrastructure and construction industry experience, from working for project owners, contractors, engineering consultants and others in the UK and overseas.

We are therefore strengthening our Construction Innovation and Digital capability and this role is for an innovative and professional at Manager level, who can work alongside our existing team to enhance the way we deliver services to our clients, with a focus on leading complex digital transformation while supporting business change and improving project delivery confidence.

You will be responsible for helping to grow and deliver our MPA business, working with our leadership team, client organisations and other KPMG teams to develop our offerings and value propositions.
To get the very best outcomes, we value different perspectives and diversity of thought. We believe that gender, race or background shouldn't limit anyone's career potential and we're working hard to recruit, and retain, people that mirror the world we work in. We fully embrace flexible working and have some award-winning employee networks and initiatives, fostering a fully inclusive environment which maximises collaboration and empowers everyone at KPMG to bring their whole selves to work.
Above all, we look after each other, we give back to our communities and we care about the quality of our work. We use the power of our voice to spark debate, share ideas and bring about change.

About the role

This role is a digital transformation lead that sits in our Construction Innovation and Digital cluster (within MPA). It involves working with a broad range of clients across the infrastructure and construction sector on a range of critical initiatives. The role will vary from providing strategic advisory support, to leading delivery of projects and programmes which include elements of technology, digital delivery, project management and business change.

As a team, we take on a wide range of assignments, requiring entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity. Applicants should therefore bring a blend of management consulting and experience of managing technology-led projects / programmes with a particular interest in business change and transformation. Ideally this would include experience in infrastructure, construction or central government with a strong track record of delivering highly innovative strategies that enable clients to achieve their objectives.

While it is desirable that you bring experience from infrastructure-related projects and programmes, we will happily consider candidates with a strong track record of digital-related delivery in other comparable industries.
As a key part of the high performing team, you’ll be applying your knowledge and skills every day bringing solutions to life.
Typically, your day-to-day involves:

  • Working alongside senior clients leading delivery of complex digital-enabled delivery and wider transformation activity
  • Leading on the production of high-quality outputs with excellent attention to detail
  • Leading on the development of our knowledge base, collaterals, thought leaderships / insights and key propositions
  • Being actively engaged in wider industry trends around digital and innovation specifically in infrastructure and construction and sharing insights with the wider team (across MPA)
  • Translating complex or technical areas of work into easily digestible presentations e.g. for non-technical leaders
  • Actively supporting business development activities – helping to identify potential opportunities for new assignments and leading on the development of proposals
  • Regularly supporting leadership in both client-facing delivery, internal activities and coaching and mentoring other colleagues in the team
  • Understanding the broader suite of services offered by KPMG and identifying opportunities to collaborate and design unique solutions for our clients
  • Coaching and mentoring your colleagues – both up and down
  • Being a role model and living our values

The sort of people we’re looking for

There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we’re as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they’re our most important asset – and people pick us because we really mean that.
For this Manager-level opportunity, we’re looking for candidates with extensive professional experience - primarily built around infrastructure-related projects and programmes.
Your track record should evidence:

  • A passion for delivering excellence and an adaptive / flexible approach to working – this is fast-paced and dynamic environment in a high growth area, so we are looking for people who are self-motivated with an eagerness to learn
  • Experience of working in an advisory or delivery capacity – either for another consultancy or in a client-side role in industry (preferably in infrastructure, construction, or central government)
  • Experience successfully delivering complex projects / programmes or in portfolio management role
  • A track record driving the adoption of best practice for customer centric digital service and product delivery
  • Ability to effectively engage with IT and digital services teams and being to translate and simplify for a non-technical audience
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams both internally and on external client engagements
  • Sound financial management including budgeting, reporting and invoicing
  • Relentless focus on delivery high quality outputs and managing risk

Other key skills would preferably include:

  • Relevant experience using different software / applications (e.g., Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)
  • Experience of working within an Agile delivery framework
  • Good awareness of key service and delivery management frameworks e.g. ITIL, TOGAF, ITSM
  • Awareness of key emerging technologies, environments and trends

A final word from us…

Everybody likes to say they’re different... but we really think we are.

We’re hugely proud of what we’ve managed to achieve so far, but we’re only just getting started. We’re looking for people to grow with us and are committed to helping everybody reach their destination, regardless of what that is.
