Haringey Council is one of 32 in London. Haringey is an extremely diverse borough, and the Council has set clear ambitious objectives through its borough plan to make Haringey a better place to live, encourage investment and create opportunities that all can share. Haringey’s vision for the future is one of sustainable growth, in housing and jobs and on helping our residents and businesses take advantage of that growth.
We have got huge ambitions for Haringey. As the shape of local government continues to change, we are determined to rise to the challenge and find new ways to ensure that our residents enjoy the best opportunities in life. Working at Haringey gives you the opportunity to play a part in meeting those ambitions on behalf of everyone who calls the borough their home.
About the role
As a vital member of our team, you will play a crucial role in assisting the APT staff with post-mortem duties, ensuring that all tasks are carried out under supervision. Your responsibilities will extend to upholding compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2004, prioritising the dignity of the deceased and their tissues throughout the process. You will also be responsible for facilitating the release and delivery of deceased patients from both the Community and Hospitals, serving as their first point of contact, and managing a shared mailbox. Efficiently maintaining and coordinating administrative processes within the Mortuary to adhere to SOPs will be central to your role. Additionally, you will help provide a viewing service for the local community, offering essential support in a sensitive and important domain of healthcare.
About you
Firstly, a demonstrated experience and proficiency in working with the deceased and/or human tissues is desirable, reflecting your competence in handling sensitive matters with utmost care and respect. Additionally, prior experience or a strong understanding of the inner workings of a mortuary or funeral directors would be highly advantageous, enabling you to seamlessly integrate into our team. Your excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are paramount, as they will facilitate effective interactions with colleagues, stakeholders, and, most importantly, bereaved families from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. Above all, your ability to handle such interactions with exceptional sensitivity and empathy is a defining characteristic we value.
