Montessori Teacher Job Description
Report to: Deputy Nursery Manager / Nursery Manager
Role Purpose
The role of this post will be to implement and demonstrate knowledge of Montessori philosophy. To work in partnership with the Deputy Nursery Manager and the Nursery Manager to ensure the day-to-day operation of the nursery is kept to high standard, in line with company policy, the Montessori Association and ensuring compliance with the Children’s Act 2006 (Childcare and Education Law), The Education Inspection Framework, and associated Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, all relevant Health and Safety, Employment Law legislation and any actions set by Ofsted.
Child care and Education
Provide an environment where children’s safeguarding and welfare needs are fully met.
Working individually with children ensuring they are meeting their full potential.
Responsible for preparation of the classroom environment, materials and equipment; ensures that all materials are in good repair and all sets complete. Develops and makes materials when needed.
Assisting the Key Person and offer the care and support to enable children to build strong trusting relationships in a stimulating atmosphere.
Communicate with families in a way that develops a calm and positive image of the nursery and teacher
Use the Montessori Nursery curriculum and current research in order to develop and train practitioners.
Work with the staff in the room in the planning and preparation of activities to develop all aspects of the child’s individual development.
Helping to provide an appropriate programme which supports the Montessori approach of learning activities in a stimulating and learning environment for the children.
- Maintain an ongoing conversation with practitioners and parents regarding how to best coordinate curriculum.
· Plan and implement the Montessori curriculum. Give appropriate presentations and establish a record keeping system to track the children’s progress.
· Provide a stimulating welcoming environment and a wide range of activities which ensure that children are highly motivated and eager to join in each day.
· Assisting in the induction and settling in of children attending the Nursery.
· Ensure that assessment information is used to plan appropriate teaching and learning strategies for individual children.
· Carrying out observations and evaluations of all children, and producing reports on individual needs of the children as required.
· Ensure respectful and open lines of communication with parents. Be available to parents through written communication, setting up training, and educating parents in Montessori philosophy.
· To assist the deputy manager and the nursery manager in children transition.
· Ensure that all reports including two-year-old checks and tracking information are completed in a timely fashion and to the agreed standards.
· Assisting with the supervision of children’s meals.
· To actively promote British Values in the nursery.
· Promote and maintain good-working relationships between the Nursery and parents/carers at all times.
· Assist in the planning and maintenance of the indoor and outdoor environment.
Staffing
· Assisting with staff inductions and helping new staff to fit into the nursery.
· Assisting the deputy manager and the nursery manager with the trainees or students are monitored, coached, mentored and supported and any underperformance tackled.
· To assist and support the Early Years Practitioners in creating room displays.
· Develop open and positive working relationships with staff.
· To provide staff cover within the nursery periodically, as requested by the management team.
· Provide necessary instruction and training for those assisting in the classroom environment.
· Promote good communication among staff members.
Welfare / Safeguarding
· To assist the Deputy Manager and the nursery manager in ensuring children with complex medical needs are met at all times.
· To undertake Safeguarding duties at all times.
· To comply with The Grove Montessori Safeguarding policy.
· To whistle blow any concerns relating to safeguarding to the Lead Safeguarding Officer.
Health and Safety
· To carry out regular Risk Assessments in the room and to ensure all mandatory information is obtained before going out on trips.
· To be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness.
· Assisting with the keeping and monitoring of accident, incident, medication forms, risk assessment and attendance records.
· To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
· This includes daily cleaning, nappy changing, and other nursery / housekeeping duties.
· Maintaining the Nursery’s equipment and stock as appropriate and keeping the room clean and safe all the times.
Conduct
· To be fully up to date with the welfare requirements and the Statutory Framework of Early Years Foundation Stage and ensure that your practice meets and aims to exceed the requirement.
· Work in partnership with parents to provide consistent high quality, non-discriminatory child care which meets the needs of each individual child and family and which enables the child to realise his/her full potential and achieve a good self- image and self – esteem.
· Welcome parents and children on their settling in days and assist them in the room.
· Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers.
· Develop and maintain friendly and professional relationships with parents and carers.
· Ensure that all work carried out is done in the best interest of The Grove Montessori and will strive to ensure that every effort is made to promote the work and good reputation of the Nursery at all times.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £25,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
