Starling Bank
Full Time Remote 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

Starling engineers love building things, creating new stuff, learning new technologies and working with others across all areas of the bank to bring brilliant products and features to life. Our engineers are excited about helping us deliver new features, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. Hear from our engineers in our latest blogs or our case studies with Women in Tech.
We offer a flat working structure and are looking for engineers at all levels to join the team. We value people being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to Starling. People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams do great things here at Starling.
We’re open-minded when it comes to hiring and we care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications. If you care enough to find elegant solutions to difficult technical problems, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role:
Working as part of our product delivery teams, you will perform both functional and non-functional testing of our mobile applications, ensuring that they perform as expected and they meet our high standards. We are looking for someone who will advocate for testing throughout the lifecycle of the product and who takes pride in ensuring we are releasing good quality software that helps our customers.
In this role, you’ll work with our engineers to enhance our test-driven development approach to building mobile applications. We aim for a very high level of test automation across our applications so we can deploy to production many times a day. Our engineers are responsible for understanding the desired behaviour of the code they are writing and testing.
As a mobile product tester, you will be expected to use your own initiative to test and validate features, functional controls and logic flows, as well as planning and executing regression testing. You are looking for the missed edge cases, verifying behaviour on a variety of devices and form factors and looking for consistency issues between our platforms. You’ll monitor and drive improvements, and communicate identified risks or issues to the wider team.

Requirements:
What we would like from you:

  • Experienced tester who can work under their own initiative, in an autonomous manner, collaborating with all areas of the bank including engineers, product designers and product owners
  • 2+ years experience testing mobile applications. We’d really love someone with Android experience, to balance out our current team.
  • Comfortable conducting exploratory testing on pre-release builds.
  • Hands on experience automating E2E user journeys - ideally with native mobile applications
  • Able to analyse risk, severity, and impact of issues identified and work with the wider team to prioritise and resolve them
  • Maintain an adaptable, pragmatic approach to testing; switching modes to meet the needs of the bank
  • Good understanding of user experience best practices and UX testing
Benefits:
Starling technology works in a hybrid pattern both from home and one of our three offices. We’re open to applications from across the UK including fully remote, if you’re hybrid our preference is that you’re located within a commutable distance to either our London, Southampton or Cardiff office, so that we’re able to see each other and collaborate in person too.
  • 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off!
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work and Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships
