Milk Supply and Farm Services Manager
Are you looking for a new and exciting opportunity based in Pembrokeshire?
Pembrokeshire Creamery Ltd is a new milk processing dairy currently being developed in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. It is a “sister” company of the well-established and respected Welsh food business Puffin Produce, who are the largest supplier of Welsh produce in Wales, supplying a wide variety of potatoes and seasonal vegetables to major retailers and wholesalers. At Pembrokeshire Creamery we intend to replicate the principles of our “sister” company by sourcing milk from local Welsh dairy farms, processing it and selling it through Welsh shops and retailers to Welsh consumers.
We are looking to recruit a Milk Supply and Farm Services Manager to help deliver and lead the milk supply strategy, ensuring a consistent supply of quality Welsh milk to the business from a combination of directly contracted dairy farmers and third party contracts.
The role will be based in Haverfordwest although you will be required to travel to farms across Pembrokeshire and surrounding counties.
What you can expect from the role
- You’ll be responsible for milk planning and balancing maintaining close communication with the Production team to establish milk requirements and reviewing supply contracts with trading partners.
- You’ll be responsible for building relationships with local dairy farmers, securing and retaining milk supply contracts whilst managing and where necessary, shaping the milk pricing aspect of the contract.
- You’ll oversee and monitor third party milk haulage arrangements.
- You’ll be responsible for milk quality standards and compliance ensuring contracted farms meet the Red Tractor Dairy Assurance Scheme standards and comply to all relevant contractual agreements. You’ll also be responsible for establishing a milk quality control system and monitoring quality for payment and acceptability.
- You’ll be responsible for managing the farmer payment system either directly or through a third party.
- You’ll assume budgetary responsibility for Milk Supply and Farm Services department.
Experience and Skills that you’ll need for this role
- Knowledge of Dairy Industry
- Logistics experience
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Strong level of numeracy
- Problem solving experience
- Excellent organisational and negotiation skills
- IT literate (Excel and PowerPoint particularly).
- Project management skills and experience
- Basic chemistry and food hygiene knowledge.
