Job description
Maintain registration with the NMC and work within the NMC code at all times To undertake assessments, provide support, education and advice for patients with pre-existing or gestational diabetes and their families, to supplement the care provided by their midwives, where necessary Accept and triage referrals and prioritise appropriately. Manage and lead the midwifery led, virtual diabetic clinic Review and discuss results from the blood glucose monitoring database and prioritise care accordingly. To advise on the management of women with diabetes and adjustment of diabetic medication following discussions with both the patient and the multi-disciplinary team To provide specialist support and advise for both women and healthcare professionals on diabetes management in labour and arrange postnatal follow-up care. To empower pregnant women with diabetes to make informed decisions regarding their condition and guide them towards a normal lifestyle, detecting and preventing complications for patients and their babies, using both verbal and written patient information Continue to develop own diabetes knowledge, competence and skill level to keep up-to-date with continuing changes in diabetes care and research To act in a safe and professional manner at all times, in accordance with the NMC code Please download the full job description for further information on the main duties and responsibilities
