Job description
You will be responsible for providing analysis of global weather patterns and how they may impact supply and demand dynamics of electricity markets. Analysis provides commercial value for the wider Portfolio Optimisation Group and helps them make informed decisions based on fundamental views.
How will I spend my time in this role?
- Generate a daily view of weather forecasts for coming two weeks across key geographies for gas and power markets;
- Translate both the internally and externally generated weather forecasts into a clear outlook, articulating risk factors;
- Alongside Short Term Trading team develop trading recommendations based on analysis;
- Work with Forecasting Analysts on weather generated renewable power generation forecasts;
- Hold a view of and regularly communicate global seasonal forecasts to inform the global energy complex;
- Keep up to date on research and modelling of climate variables that could impact longer term strategies;
- Monitor market place for new weather products and hold relationship with external weather vendors.
What skills/experience do I need to be considered?
- Experience of European weather forecasting (North America and Australia are desirable);
- Experience in using global weather models and knowledge of their limitations;
- Degree in meteorology or similar discipline;
- Experience using classical prediction methods such as Regression, ARIMA;
- Experience using simulation methods such as Monte Carlo, Markov Switching
- Experience developing probabilistic ensemble forecast models;
- Experience in Python programming language plus third-party libraries including numpy, scipy, pandas and scikit-learn.
