Job description
We are looking for a Metallurgical Engineer to join our team. The Metallurgical/Materials Science Engineer is responsible for providing product, process, and systems support for production processes at our facility in Delta, Ohio. This facility has a pickle line, hot dip galvanizing line, and slitter; supplying the automotive, construction, energy, and agricultural markets. Responsibilities include applying metallurgical and engineering principles to the design, development, and operation of processes and equipment while also contributing to new grade and supplier development. Responsibilities
- Interface with steel mills to ensure raw material enables correct final product characteristics.
- Familiarity with and interpretation of ASTM, EN/DIN, SAE and customer specifications.
- Develop and maintain documentation for metallurgical design including selection of chemical compositions, annealing cycles, coating weights, and tension leveling.
- Research, design and manage product capability/development and continuous improvement projects.
- Provide metallurgical expertise to the purchasing, commercial, operating, material disposition, and customer claim groups.
- Assist customer order creation and material transfers.
- Develop material and processing parameters to efficiently achieve desired end-product properties and attributes based upon customer and industry specifications.
- Participate in corrective action teams and facilitate root cause analyses.
- Support testing laboratory through test standard interpretation, procedural development and auditing, and test equipment selection due diligence.
- Prescribe metallurgical testing and interpret results for internal and external customer presentations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Experience
- Ability to effectively communicate and network with the appropriate people/resources to acquire information and see a task through to completion
- Basic knowledge of chemical/materials principles
- Fluency in computer statistical analysis and reporting tools along with an understanding of computer systems and data bases
- General technical writing skills
- Exposure to hot dip galvanizing a plus
- Familiarity with welding a plus
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering or equivalent experience
- 4+ years work experience in ferrous metallurgy
