Job Title: Metal Finishing Technician

Location: Ramsgate, Kent

Salary: up to £30,000

Hours:

Earlies 0600-1400 (Monday to Friday)

Days 0800-1630 (Monday to Friday)

Lates 1415-0030 (Monday to Wednesday) and 1415-2330 (Thursday)

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:
  • Efficient and effectively delivery the day-to-day operation of the metal finishing section under the direction of the Team Leader.
  • Ensure production schedules are adhered to.
  • Support the control of Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality, maintaining compliance with all industry regulations.
  • Working with materials such as chrome, nickle, cadmium, silver, tin, copper and phosphate.
  • Completing processes such as heat treatments and non-destructive testing (nital etch).
  • Undertake a breadth of tasks including electroplating, cleaning, degreasing and masking to a variety of components.
  • Monitor required levels of stock for chemicals and consumables.
  • Assist with certain elements of machine maintenance (preventative and scheduled).
  • Support with the training and development of other members of staff.
  • Support with the implementation of initiatives to improve manpower utilisation and process improvements.
  • Ensure quality requirements are always met.
  • Promote the culture of continuous improvement, maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
  • Improve safety by addressing and raising concerns for physical safety issues and attitudes.
  • Support with the maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Encourage progression planning with your development, ensuring accurate population of the skills matrix.
  • Ensure all training records are passed to the quality team.
  • Adhere to industry standard QA rules and regulations.
  • Ensure SOPs, Risk Assessments and Local Instructions are kept up to date and delivered to the team accordingly.
  • Working with hazardous chemicals.
  • Working with lathes, precision grinders and mills etc.
  • Working with high temperature treatments.
  • Working with dry grit, cast steel shots, glass beads and plastic media with the potential for dust exposure.
  • Potential exposure to noise and coolant mist.
Experience and skills required for this position:
  • Background in engineering or aerospace.
  • Computer literate.
  • An understanding of lean process principles.
