Job description
We are beginning a major project to update our collection of print books and journals in the Hartley Library. We are looking for people who can work accurately with bibliographic metadata and can assist with the reclassification of library materials. This role will help make our content and collections more discoverable, delivering benefits to our library user community. The project is expected to run for 18 months and the posts are fixed term for that period. We welcome applications for both full- and part-time hours (up to 36 hours per week), and these posts are also available as secondment opportunities.
You will be part of our Metadata and Discovery team, working to enhance our metadata and improving access to our content and collections. You will need:
- To be familiar with data management systems, preferably in a library context.
- To have experience with accurate and timely data input and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
- To have some familiarity with library classification schemes. Previous work with Library of Congress classification would be an advantage.
- The ability to interact with colleagues in other teams, providing advice and guidance relating to metadata and discovery of library resources.
About you
You will enjoy working as part of a team and can work accurately, with excellent attention to detail. You will be confident working with data. You will be able to work independently, to agreed deadlines, and plan and prioritise your own short- and medium-term work activities. A good communicator, you will provide advice to colleagues on matters relating to metadata and discovery of our collections.
