Job description

As a Mental Health Recovery/Support Worker - Helplines you will offer people affected by mental illness the support and help they need to regain their confidence and get involved in everyday social and workplace activities. You will be working closely with individuals to achieve their own personal goals and access all the support they need on their recovery journey. Rethink Black Country 24/7 service offers a free 24/7 helpline for people in the Black Country (Dudley, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Walsall) who require support on urgent mental health concerns. Please note this is an overnight role (working hours would be 12am – 8am). Trained mental health support staff are on hand to answer calls from members of the public. We tailor our response to each caller's situation. This may include: Listening, and guidance Practical support ideas De-escalation of crisis Encouragement to explore self-help options Community-based resources which may be able to help Onward referrals and a follow-up call if require Our first response will be to try to avoid the need for a clinical intervention where possible; however, we are working alongside NHS clinical staff who can give support or take ownership of calls where this is needed. Who we support Support is available to people of any age living in the Black Country and experiencing urgent mental health difficulties or concerns Who I am? I can make a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s situation and needs; to develop, implement and review risk management plans and devise support plans and activities to meet these needs. I have experience of providing support to people with a mental illness; or experience of providing care and/or support services within another social care setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity. I have a strong working knowledge of mental health and appropriate intervention methods QCF Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Care or Certificate in Community Mental Healthcare (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification.
