Posts: Two substantive, full-time, positions and one six-month secondment/fixed term contract opportunity.
Opportunities have arisen to join the Mental Health Paramedic Response Unit (MHPRU) Service based in Glasgow. The service has operated in a substantive capacity, following a pilot period, for over a year and these vacancies offer opportunities for registered paramedics, with a minimum of one year experience on appointment, to join the mental health team.
Mental Health Paramedic Response Unit Service operates in collaboration with Greater Glasgow and Clyde mental health services and is based between Stobhill and Leverndale Mental Health Assessment Units and local Ambulance stations. Mental Health Paramedics work in partnership with mental health nursing colleagues from the mental health assessment units, frequently responding to incidents as a joint response. There are times when the mental health paramedic will respond as a solo responder, with decision making support available through the mental health assessment units at these times. In addition to mental health calls, the MHPRU Service responds to immediate life-threatening calls and supports crews regionally when they are the nearest resource and available.
The successful applicants will deliver care, and support, for people who encounter the Ambulance Service with a range of mental health needs and should have an interest in and commitment to the provision of optimal mental health care. Additional training in relation to mental health assessment, care, risk assessment and management, as well as a period of buddying, will be provided to support in undertaking the role. The successful candidates will join an approved, six-person, roster which provides 24/7 operational coverage including one relief week.
There is the opportunity for people interested in the posts to connect with the current team and visit the mental health assessment units to learn more about the role and how the service is delivered. If this would be of interest, please contact Krish Veeramootoo, Paramedic Team Leader, via [email protected].
Additionally, informal enquiries in respect of these posts can also be direct to; Ricky Begg, Mental Health Paramedic Response Unit Service Manager, [email protected].
