Job description

Are you a recent Psychology graduate who is passionate about supporting people with complex mental health needs? Or do you have previous experience of working with this client group and wish to continue making a positive impact?

If so, we want to hear from you!

We have a Community Support Worker role available within our Housing with Care and Support service in Newcastle and Gateshead. This service supports people with complex mental health needs to take up tenancies in the community. We work with people who have experienced trauma in their lives and can present with behaviours that challenge. We understand that every behaviour is an expression of unmet need and we work hard to build helpful and trusting relationships, offering stability and consistency.

You will be a vital member of our professional and welcoming team. Using your previous experience of working with people with complex mental health needs and good communication skills, you will work alongside our Mental Health Nurses and Clinical Leads to support our service users to take the next step in their personal recovery.

We work in the least restrictive way and collaborate closely with the individual and other professionals to offer ‘just enough’ support, so that people can take the risks they need to in order to reach their potential, flourish in life and transition into a community setting.

To succeed in this role, you will be highly motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine desire to work with this client group. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team to support our service users to achieve their own recovery goals.

You will be traveling across Gateshead and Newcastle for this role, visiting our various service users.

You will be working on rota, Monday-Sunday. Rota is available for staff around 4 weeks prior to shift pattern commencing. If weekend working, staff receive days off during the week to ensure 37.5 is adhered to. Some on call working is required and is reflected within the rota and expenses.

We would love to hear from you if you possess the following:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with people with complex mental health needs, who can display behaviours that challenge.
  • A genuine desire to work with this client group.
  • Able to work well as part of team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with the people we care for.
