Do you have a passion for health sciences and science communication? Do you have a talent for writing complex documents and real-world experience in the biomedical field that you would like to bring to an organization with an inspiring and compassionate mission? CHU Sainte-Justine’s research department (RD) is looking to add two (2) science writers to its science team.
Reporting to the assistant director, partnerships and strategic development, and working closely with members of the scientific affairs team and research teams, the science writer will be responsible for writing and editing various scientific documents. The successful candidate will review and optimize applications for grants, career awards and other scientific initiatives to help our researchers win competitions held by major government and parastatal granting agencies. They will also actively participate in writing institutional grant proposals for key strategic initiatives. The science writer may be called upon to coordinate major scientific initiatives led by the RD in collaboration with the researchers and in accordance with the research centre’s strategic priorities.
Main responsibilities
- Actively participate in writing and reviewing RD-led grant applications for key initiatives.
- Work with scientific advisors to provide internal linguistic and scientific review of researchers’ grant applications in accordance with the specific requirements of the various government, parastatal and other granting agencies.
- Establish and provide scientific and linguistic review for scientific manuscripts produced by researchers and research professionals before they’re submitted for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Support the scientific affairs team and researchers in rolling out and coordinating key strategic initiatives prioritized by the RD.
Exigences :
Requirements and qualifications
- Scientific background with a relevant doctoral degree in applied and biomedical sciences.
- Excellent knowledge of the academic research community and government, parastatal and other granting agencies.
- 3 to 5 years of scientific writing experience in the fields of health and/or research, in French and English.
- Grant writing experience.
- Excellent command of spoken and written French and English (bilingualism required).

Working conditions
This is a full-time, 35 hour/week, non-union position (one-year probationary period). The salary ranges from $49,456.20 to $87,625.87 as per the scale in effect at CHU Sainte-Justine, based on recognized work experience. CHU Sainte-Justine supports flexible work arrangements. The other working conditions depend on the standards in place at the institution.
