What you’ll be responsible for:

· As part of a team participate in a pooled typing service of correspondence and reports including the transcription and management of patient letters supporting the use of clinical and corporate systems as appropriate.

· Ensure that all own typed correspondence is signed, corrected, and distributed in a timely manner and there is full participation in cover of same for colleagues.

· Provide telephone cover for senior secretaries if required e.g. to take messages and telephone calls from staff, patients, relatives and others and deal with enquiries referring on where appropriate.

· Provide ad hoc clerical support for senior secretaries when necessary commensurate with own grade.

· If required open and action mail, distribute/send out post, photocopy documents and assist with general filing.

You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:

1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS

2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times

3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

You’ll have the following skills/experience:

· Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written

· Microsoft office skills- Outlook, Word, and Excel

· Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

· Previous NHS experience

· Previous secretarial experience

· Ability to work autonomously

Experience:
- Previous experience working as a medical secretary or in a similar administrative role is preferred
- Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures is a plus
- Proficiency in using phone systems and other office equipment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, healthcare providers, and other staff members
