Job summary
Bexley Group Practice is looking for an experienced part-time Medical Secretary to join our team. If you are a team player but also able to work autonomously then you are the person we are looking for. The ideal candidate would have worked in Primary care but training will be provided to those who may wish to apply from secondary care. Both Clinical and administrative teams are welcoming and friendly and you feel part of the team in no time at all. There will be some in Practice in house training to ensure a smooth transition for our new team member.
Main duties of the job
- Typing of referral letters to both the NHS and private hospitals
- Filing of correspondence into medical records
- Use of electronical referral system including: E-referral, EMIS Web, Docman and Email
- Liaising with GPs when there are any outstanding referral letters and queries
- Checking E-referral for any rejected referrals and action as appropriate
- Communicating with hospital departments and patients regarding referral appointments/correspondence/results
- Issuing invoices for Non NHS work
- Keeping up to date with referral policies and making sure GP referrals are in line with Low Priority Procedures
- Co-ordination and admin requests from solicitors and external organisations to assist with the resolution and admin of queries
- Updating referral forms on the computer system
- Maintenance of directory for services
- Telephone calls to patients/hospital and outside agencies
- To provide accurate, efficient and punctual medical secretarial support to the GP's, Partners, Management Nurses and admin teams
- To complete all SARs requests
Overview of your organisation
Bexley Group Practice is a busy GP Practice, located in the heart of Welling. We have approximately 13,000 patients.
We are a successful training practice. We facilitate the training of Doctors wishing to become GPs, as well as student nurses and other clinical colleagues. We also encourage staff growth and development for our administration team.
You will find the whole team supportive and welcoming and will find the Practice a happy and pleasant place to work. The successful candidate will be given time to settle in with a robust induction programme and hand over.
We have a Reception and Administrative team, GP's, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Paramedics, Physician Associate, Phlebotomists and a Mental Health Practitioner.

- Leading and minute taking of the weekly clinical meetings and monthly MDT meetings
Essential criteria
Experience of working in a Primary Care - GP Practice Excellent and accurate typing skills Experience in audio and copy typing Good command of the English language Good computing skills Team worker Flexible in new tasks Keen to undertake training and additional tasks Ability to work on own initiative Good communication skills Understanding the importance of the confidential nature of the role/environment
Desirable criteria
Knowledge of EMIS/DOCMAN clinical systems Experience of working in a Primary Care - GP Practice

Part-time hours: 22.5 per week
Salary: £11.00-£12.00 per hour
