Medical Scientific Liaison (Lung cancer)

GSK is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company with the purpose to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together. We aim to impact the health of 2.5 billion people over the next 10 years. Our bold ambitions for patients are reflected in new commitments to growth and a step-change in performance. GSK is a company where outstanding people can thrive and we’re focused on making GSK a place where everyone can be ambitious for patients, accountable for their impact and always do the right thing.

Oncology is one of GSK’s four priority therapy areas. Our strategic approach to oncology research focuses on areas where we have the capabilities to make a difference: immuno-oncology to harness the body’s immune system to fight cancer, synthetic lethality to combine two genetic mechanisms to destroy cancerous cells and tumour cell targeting to identify cancer cell-specific traits. We have accelerated research areas including synthetic lethality and next generation immuno-oncology agents, drawing on our own expertise in human genetics and the science of the immune system, and that of our partners.

As GSK’s oncology portfolio expands, we are looking for a highly talented and dynamic lung cancer MSL to join our growing UK Oncology Medical team.

Job Description

This is a field-based, non-promotional role aligned to the lung cancer therapy area, acting as the interface between the external healthcare professional community and the internal GSK medical team and its affiliates. This Medical Scientific Liaison will build strong scientific partnerships with external experts and communicate deep knowledge around GSK’s lung cancer assets in development, whilst bringing in value-added insights to inform GSK Medical, Commercial, and Research & Development activities.

In this role you will

  • Develop and execute field medical plans for lung cancer in collaboration with head office medical affairs colleagues.
  • Engage in peer-to-peer level scientific dialogue with external experts around GSK’s lung cancer medicines in development, to build strong scientific partnerships.
  • Act as an expert speaker at non-promotional scientific meetings to disseminate information to larger groups of healthcare professionals while stimulating clinical dialogue to gain different views and perspectives.
  • Disseminate important safety information to healthcare professionals as appropriate.
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for Medical Information from healthcare professionals in a fair, factual, balanced, and scientifically rigorous manner via the appropriate and preferred channel.
  • Gather valuable field insights for internal stakeholders to support the better understanding of patient needs and current evidence gaps
  • Foster a collaborative working relationship with matrix colleagues (e.g., medical and market access) to ensure strategies and business plans are both patient and business focused, and adding value to the external expert
  • Support clinical development activities in assigned therapy area by participating in trial feasibility, site identification and assessment, addressing subject retention and other scientific issues in partnership with the study management team and providing ongoing support to investigators conducting GSK clinical trials.
  • Identify and support potential research opportunities consistent with medical and business strategies including investigator sponsored studies (ISSs) and real-world evidence (RWE) projects.
  • Provide scientific education training for internal cross-functional partners by being the local scientific expert in a therapy area.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the evolving scientific / therapeutic area and in competitor medicines.
  • Attend scientific meetings and congresses to keep abreast of the evolving science in the area of lung cancer.
  • Fully understand and comply with GSK standards and policies and with local codes of practice, guidelines and laws to ensure the strictest requirements are met.
