We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Photographer and Illustrator to join the Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Staff Bank.

Job Summary
The Medical Photography Service is based over two sites in Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital, both of which are part of BHRUT. Clinical photography, ophthalmic photography, clinical video recording and editing, specimen photography, medico-legal photography, publicity and illustrative work, reprographics, poster production, printing, and laminating are all services that the Department offers to all departments of the Trust.
Key Requirements for this role:
- Use analytical skills to all your work as a medical photographer. Be accountable for the efficient use of your time and resources and can set priorities efficiently and effectively.
- Comply with the clinical photography policy and give other BHRUT employees advice on any clinical photography-related issues. Maintaining personal knowledge of and adherence to all pertinent laws, guidelines, and recommendations.
- The Department supports the Oncology Department in their clinical trials.The Medical Photographer will be required to undertake this work following strict guidelines and procedures.
- The post involves dealing with difficult and distraught clients, such as surgical operations, specimens, deep, infected wounds, infectious diseases, and disorders with unknown pathologies, will be exposed to the position holder. Circumstances could be upsetting to the senses of sight, smell, or hearing.
- The position holder will be expected to work independently, but they may occasionally consult with senior medical photographers and the lead medical photographer for advice and direction.
- Responsible for attendance at arranged training sessions, including mandatory and statutory training.
Main duties will include but are not limited to:
- To carry out several Clinical Photography tasks in and around both hospitals, including in the ward, studio, theatre, mortuary, and clinic areas.
- To work independently, but when necessary, to seek assistance and direction from the Lead Medical Photographer and Senior Medical Photographers.
- Required to use constant variety of high standards for clinical photography and illustration while using a variety of standard and specialised photographic equipment
- •Communicate the need for clinical photography to patients ensuring they have given their consent and feel comfortable and confident to proceed with the photography session.
- Have a fundamental understanding of anatomy and physiology, particularly the anatomical planes, to ensure that the right views are obtained when taking pictures of patients.
- •Have a sound knowledge of the ‘Westminster Scales’ and the Institute of Medical Illustrators standardized patient photography guidelines.
- Be responsible for uploading clinical images to the Medical Photography server.
- Use Adobe Photoshop and other relevant applications to create high-quality photographic prints for patient records.
- Evaluate the demands of the customer and provide advice based on the time needed, the quality of the outcomes, and the financial consequences.
- Recognize and follow all applicable laws and regulations.
