An exciting opportunity has become available for two Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) to join our high quality, UKAS accredited laboratory at Harrogate District Hospital Laboratory.

The hours our 09:00 – 17:30 Monday – Friday, however, the successful candidate will be required to support our weekend working team when fully trained and competency assessed. Participation in an out of hours rota processing COVID specimens is required once competent.

The Microbiology laboratory provides a clinically lead diagnostic service to hospital patients and GP practices. Provision of a range of tests to assist with the diagnosis of bacterial, parasitic and fungal infections together with associated antimicrobial susceptibilities. It also provides a serology service for the diagnosis of viral and immunity status, a molecular screening and diagnostic service for sexual health specimens, and a respiratory molecular service including COVID testing. The post holder will assist qualified staff in the provision of this diagnostic service.

The post holder will work under supervision, performing routine laboratory tasks including: data entry of patient and request details, telephone enquiries and reporting results, preparation and processing of clinical specimens, safe disposal of clinical waste, general domestic and housekeeping duties . The post holder will be exposed to contained and uncontained body fluids of patients, and other infectious materials.
