Medical Laboratory Assistant (Genomics)

Location: Shropshire House, London

Salary: Competitive

Hours: Full Time/Permanent. Service open between 09:00 to 17:00 Mon to Fri.

About the Role

We have a brilliant opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in Genomics, who will assist the laboratory team, which includes scientific and medical team.

The post holder will perform duties as part of the Genomics Team under the supervision of the Clinical Scientists.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To be familiar with details of core genetic tests, including methods used, sample requirements and expected turnaround times.

  • Accept blood, saliva, DNA & tissue samples and to register patient data using the in-house software (Meditech) and ensure it complies with minimum standards.

  • Check accuracy of pre-registered test requests against original paperwork.

  • Ensure samples are safely packaged for transport following UN3373 clinical guidelines.

  • Archiving and organisation of patient referral forms, relevant correspondence and final reports – both hard (paper) copies and electronic records.

  • Send results in a timely and secure (encrypted) manner.

  • To manage the stock of office materials, including stationary orders.

  • To understand and carry out the policies as recorded in the HCA Quality Policy.

  • Assist in the achievement of all key performance indicators (e.g. TATs).

  • Follow information security, risk management and governance policies and to be aware of and work to appropriate standards (e.g. GDPR)

  • To acknowledge and sign documents on Qpulse in a timely manner.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory

  • Effective communication

  • Strong team player

  • Ability to be flexible with hours & duties where needed

  • High level of concentration and work effectively under pressure
