Receipt of patient samples. Booking patient data onto lab IT system. Maintenance of lab equipment. Phoning GP surgeries and clinics.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant role consists of a mixture of administrative tasks and laboratory preparation work in support of the screening programme on a rotational basis.
The department runs flexible working hours with weekends if desired. You would be part of a large friendly team
1. Participate in the receipt, recording and storage of specimens, including data input to laboratory computer.
2. Participate in the preparation, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment and working areas.
3. Participate in the preparation of samples for virology testing.
4. Participate with the preparation of slides for microscopic examination.
5. Prepare sample-taking consumables for dispatch to GP surgeries.
6. Participate in the preparation of reagents for routine laboratory use.
7. File and retrieve records and slides.
8. Participate in general office activities, ie photocopying, scanning documents.
9. Input and retrieve data from departmental and other IT systems.
10. Deal with telephone enquiries to the department.
11. Enter results from clinical interventions outside of the area.
12. Contact individuals and agencies within and external to NBT to seek information necessary for service provision.
13. Work according to the Standard Operating Procedures as documented
14. Work within established health and safety guidelines
15. Participate in training of staff
16. Perform general laboratory duties, e.g. checking instruments and recording temperatures.
17. Maintain safe and efficient standards of work, following codes of practice,
18. Participate in staff appraisal/PDP according to Trust policy
