Pathology Department (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) Medical Laboratory Assistant
The Pathology department at Stepping Hill Hospital are seeking a medical laboratory assistant to join the trust. The successful applicant would be joining a passionate and highly motivated staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital patients and wider community.
The role is supporting the delivery of Blood Sciences services. As the suitable candidate you will have laboratory experience, data input experience , strong attention to detail and accuracy combined with high work rate. The post-holder will be provided full training to work in the Blood Sciences team to prepare samples for analysis, including the logging of sample requests into the Telepath
The laboratory provides a comprehensive 24/7 service to the hospital; due to the nature of the workload, working hours will be flexible to meet service requirements, and shifts subject to AfC supplementary payments over the base salary will be available on a voluntary basis.

- The receipt, recording and preparation of a variety of patient samples e.g. blood, urine, faeces and other body fluids.
- To sort and identify specimens received in the Laboratory.
- To enter patient’s details and other data onto the computer.
- Have good computer literacy and typing skills
- To assist the Biomedical Scientists in technical duties as required under supervision of the Biomedical Scientists.
- Perform general clerical duties associated with the work of the Laboratory, including filing, telephone answering, photocopying etc.
- To work with other team members to cover absence due to sickness and annual leave.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties under supervision and according to protocols laid down.
- If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £21.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
