Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our specimen reception National Pathology Exchange (NPEx) expansion team at Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS). BSPS is a large network of NHS laboratories serving 7 NHS hospital sites: Ashford & St Peter’s, Frimley Park, Royal Berkshire, Royal Surrey, Heatherwood and Wexham Park, Surrey and Sussex NHS Foundation Trusts.
NPEx is a national service for NHS laboratories to connect through a single hub, and allows test requests and pathology results to be sent digitally from any lab to any other lab.

The post holder will spend the majority of time working on the NPEx project at our Biochemistry Specialist Services department based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
The Department is a Supraregional Assay Service Laboratory for Peptide Hormones and Trace Elements. The post holder will be expected to support members of staff such as IT leads and clinical scientists with NPEx testing.
The post holder will also be required to perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks where required.
Royal Surrey Foundation Trust is part of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services network.

Testing Duties
Provide overall support to the NPEx project, including, but not limited to the following:
- Establishing regular communication with external laboratories to establish a contact to collaborate on testing, as well as contacting relevant members of the BSPS team.
- Establishing test protocol specific to specialist sections and individual external laboratory requirements.
- Identification and troubleshooting of unforeseen issues with NPEx communication with appropriate documentation and improvement actions.
- Prioritisation of completion of testing and go-live with NPEx for various external laboratories.
- Completion of end-to-end testing in both the test and live environments (NPEx & Winpath Enterprise) involving the following tasks: • Booking requests into Winpath Enterprise (WPE).
- Typing agreed ranges of results into WPE.
- Collecting evidence of end-to-end testing and completion of appropriate documentation, including;1. NPEx (request, shipping manifest & results),
3. CIM (inbound & outbound HL7 messages)
4. LIMS of requesting laboratory (results).
