Job description

Pay range - $16 to $19 per hour
OVERVIEW:
The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining patient files and statistics, responds to requests for medical records, and perform associated clerical duties. This position requires the incumbent be highly motivated, a self-starter with an eye for details and the ability to get the job done with minimal errors.
Duties, functions and responsibilities:
  • Gather patient demographic and personal information
  • Issue medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations
  • Maintain quality and accurate records by following established procedures
  • Ensure patient charts, paperwork and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Accepts ownership and responsibility for all actions, tasks and requests to enhance medical records management and hospital compliance and reputation
  • Engages in ongoing training, education and professional activities to enhance knowledge, skills and professionalism
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing good customer service.
  • Knowledge regarding laws related to HIPAA, patient and employer confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and dental /medical practice management/billing software.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with the public and other employees.
Minimum qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years' experience in handling medical records in a licensed medical facility
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • ICD-10-CM coding capabilities preferred
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient in computer programs, including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (in accordance with ADA):
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
  • Must be able to have vision adequate to read documents, a computer screen, registration forms and other clinic documents.
  • Manual dexterity; the ability to lift at least 20 pounds; and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Other requirements:
  • Understands dental/medical terminology and anatomy
  • Understands insurance and patient billing and reimbursement
  • Must provide own vehicle for local travel
  • May be required to travel to other sites
