Job Opening Summary
The medical assistant provides patient care in a physician's office setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician. Clinical skills performed are within the scope of a medical assistant as defined by Florida Statutes 458.3485 and UFHP clinical policy and procedure. The MA may also perform clerical, insurance and medical record functions. May be required to float to other UFHP practices, as needed, for staffing.
Job Opening Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited course of study as a medical office assistant or possess the equivalent knowledge and skills base by having completed/graduated from a similar type of formal medical training, such as a formal medical services training program offered by the United States Armed Forces (e.g., health care specialist training course, special operations medical sergeant training course, hospital corpsman training course, health services technician).
- Must possess and maintain certification as a medical assistant. Candidates with prior medical assistant experience who are not certified must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- One year of direct patient care experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.
- Person should display initiative, have the ability to multitask and be able to assume additional responsibilities.
- Proven ability to problem solve and be a team member are essential skills.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Must possess and maintain current certification or registration as a medical assistant. Candidates with prior medical assistant experience who are not certified must obtain MA certification within 90 days of hire, and maintain it thereafter.
- Basic Life Support (CPR) required or must be obtained within first month of employment.
- Must maintain current Basic Life Support (CPR).

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile
a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
