The Medical Services Assistant performs administrative and clinical tasks as assigned to support effective and efficient office operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Implements patient experience techniques in all patient interactions, in-person, telephone and telehealth visits.
- Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements.
- Obtains pre-certification and /or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management as assigned.
- Assist in the treatment and examination of patient.
- Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.

- Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a “certified medical assistant” as outlined in NJAC 13:35-6.4(a)2.
- At least one (1) year of relevant experience required, preferably in a medical office setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- The ability to function in a team environment is required.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
- Completion of medical interpreter training course.
- Computer, basic office equipment, Digital vital signs monitor, Manual sphygmanometer.
- Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
- Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
- Able to travel to provide coverage at “off-site” practices as needed.
