Summary
Under the medical direction of the Office Manager and Director of Operations, the Back Office Medical Assistant will perform a variety of skilled tasks to assist physicians and mid-level providers in administering excellent patient care at all times.

Assists the Office and/or Group Manager with the execution of all aspects of the back office operations with an emphasis on providing exceptional patient care.
Report all potential employer liability issues and/or dissatisfied patient complaints to the clinic manager immediately.
Prepare for the day's activities by reviewing schedules and preparing rooms and instruments
Prep procedural trays for procedures such as, biopsies, excisions and shave removals, Cryotherapy and I&D.
Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
Room patients, to ensure all necessary consents and photos have been completed.
Aid the physicians and mid-level providers during medical and surgical procedures, including patient care and education.
Prepare patients for any preliminary test requested by the provider, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature report patient history summary.
Obtain signed consents for the procedures that the provider performs.
Assist physicians and mid-level providers through-out the patient's visit with office-based procedures: excisions, shave biopsies, and other procedures all within medical assistant's scope and under the direct supervision of the provider.
Maintains logs with patient information to include the date of service, patients names and or MRN, medication name, the amount given, purchased, and all other pertinent information for the use of record keeping.
Accurately scribe the patients information into the EMR system; medical history, chief complaint, all the providers notes during the visit and Rx information.
Perform medical tasks such as administering injections, suture removals and bandaging wounds.
Maintain biopsy logs and assure proper follow up and documentation for any positive biopsy results requiring further medical care.
Sterilize the equipment and follow proper protocol for processing instrumentation and maintaining logs.
Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with CLIA and OSHA regulations.
Clean and sterilize surgical equipment and supplies. Examine and maintain sterilizing machines such as steam autoclaves.
Maintain detailed records of sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance and supplies
Upkeep supplies by inventorying stock; assist with order placement and the verification of orders received.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, attend seminars, conferences and continuing education courses.
A clean driving record, a valid drivers license and proof of current insurance are required throughout employment.

Typing skills (50 wpm).

Advance working knowledge of HMO, PPO, FFS and Medi-Cal plans.
Bi-lingual English/Spanish Read, Write and Speak Fluently.
Ability to keep confidential patient information to oneself at all times, despite the temptation to share.
Education and Experience
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification Program: National Certification.
Medical Assistant: 2 years experience in a medical clinic setting; Dermatology experience.
Certified Dermatology Training required within the first 90 days of hire.
Proficiency using sophisticated medical equipment.
Intermediate knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid Certification.
Advanced EMR experience.
Sterile Tray Setup.
2 years of fast-paced scribing in a clinical medical environment.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Fundamental knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes and procedures.
Dermatology, Urgent Care or Family Practice environment highly desired.
Completion of all CDT training modules with a passing score within 3 months of hire.
Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a fast-paced professional medical environment with multiple providers.
Physical Demands
The employee is required to stand and use both hands for typing for extended periods of time; Walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl periodically. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day shifts.
Travel
This position requires up to 50% travel. Travel to multiple clinic locations, which are located throughout the Inland Empire and surrounding areas, will be required throughout the week, and at times on short notice.
