Job description
The Medical Assistant in the Family Medicine clinic is primarily responsible for providing patients with the best medical care, preventative medicine, and health maintenance while providing exceptional customer service at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet/escort patients to the exam room and escort existing patients.
- Record changes in the patient’s medical history and update vital signs.
- Preparing patients for examinations. Assisting physician during examinations, (WWE, Physicals, Breast exams, Biopsy, Colposcopy).
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, blood draws, and electrocardiograms, administer injections and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- May be assigned at times to assist Provider with assessing patients outside the COVID clinic.
- Authorize medication refills and triage.
- Sanitation of exam rooms in-between patients.
- Call patients regarding test results.
- Obtain test results (labs, X-rays, MRI, CT, hospital discharger records).
- Ensure incoming phone messages/mail/faxes get to the appropriate physician.
- Order equipment, supplies, and other items as needed.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must have 2-4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or a Medical Assistant Certification. Must have the ability to take vitals, answer phones, interact with patients regarding their medical issues, schedule appointments, backfill cancellations, insurance authorization as appropriate, and support the requirements of various providers. Must be knowledgeable in HIPAA. Experience in wound care/dressings required. Ability to be organized, multi-task, and have a basic understanding of prioritizing patient emergencies. Knowledge of business office practices, procedures, and equipment required.
Computer Skills
General computer literacy is necessary, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, required. Knowledge and proficiency with CITRIX and E SCRIP are highly desired.

Experience
