GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary:
Assists Office Supervisor/Practice Manager by ensuring efficient day-to-day activities of the Medical Assistants. Primary duties of the lead also include training, teaching, communication and quality control. Assists with interviewing and selection for staffing. The lead will also perform back-office duties under the direction of a physician or APC to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. Responsibilities include obtaining patient history, vital signs, and assisting in performing simple office procedures as trained. May also perform front-office duties necessary for the efficient day-to-day operation of an outpatient physician office practice. Mentor and orient medical assistants for BMG. Full spectrum of clinical and clerical medical office procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Lead and assign daily activities of assigned medical assistant staff. Provide input into performance evaluations. Participate in peer panel activities and submit interview feedback to supervisor/manager for consideration of hire of applicants into the medical assistant positions.
2. Monitor scheduling and staffing of medical assistants to ensure efficient day-to-day operations. Adjust work schedules as necessary. Advise management of any staffing coverage issues.
3. Monitor patient flows to ensure efficiency and reduce patient wait times.
4. Obtains patient history and measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height. Records information as appropriate in Epic. Documents chief complaints and all actions taken. Alerts the physician/APC of problems, concerns and/or abnormalities.
5. Set up exam/procedure rooms, including instruments for minor procedures. Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment and clinical areas following defined procedures and protocols.
6. Assist the physician/APC with simple patient procedures. Act as chaperone for all female patients as needed.
7. Maintain patient record, treat as a legal document requiring proper documentation and strict confidentiality. Manages/maintains Joint Commission and CLIA requirements for in-office logs.
8. Monitor and order medical supplies and materials.
9. Greet patients and families upon arrival and initiate all proper forms for the medical and financial record, obtaining the patient and/or responsible party’s signature as necessary.
10. Perform patient registration, obtaining insurance authorizations, following current insurance authorization procedures.
11. Schedules new and follow up patient appointments. Schedule referrals to other providers as needed.
12. Maintain efficient patient flow.
13. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Basic Life Support
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 4 + years of medical assistant experience to include obtaining patient history, vital signs and simple office procedures. Crossed trained for front office duties.
Preferred: 5 years of medical assistant experience to include obtaining patient history, vital signs and simple office procedures. Crossed trained for front office duties.
