We are looking for four individuals who are ready to start their career in the industry to join the Whisper Academy & work at Whisper Cymru. The four successful candidates will be given a 12 month paid placement and assigned to one of our trainee roles in either, production management, editorial (creative) or technical x 2.
They will be embedded within the Whisper Cymru team working on projects such as The Rugby World Cup for S4C & Women’s Six Nations for BBC, the Paris 2024 Paralympics for Channel 4, Digital content for brands such as The British & Irish Lions & Welsh Rugby Union & documentaries for a range of broadcasters in Wales & further afield. This will give them the opportunity to learn and develop from the in-house team as well as gaining experience to move their career forward at the end of the placement.

Production Management Trainee x 1
The production management team look after the logistics of making TV – this includes managing budgets, booking transport & crew, creating filming schedules and health and safety.
A good Production Management member is a team player who is responsible and able to work independently. They have a good eye for detail, strong IT skills and comfortable working with budgets and schedules. They can prioritise tasks and work well under pressure and manage deadlines.
Candidate Essential Experience and Skills
Enthusiasm for factual entertainment / sports or digital content- Desire to build a career in production management – in assisting editorial teams in getting projects to screen
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Good numeracy skills
- Competent across a range of IT software including MS Office and Outlook
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work in pressurised environments
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable criteria:
Good communication skills- Proactive and enthusiastic approach to working
- Experience of organising events (can be while in education)
- Ability to generate ideas.
Editorial (Creative) Trainee x 1
The editorial team are responsible for the creative content of TV making – this includes devising and developing strong creative ideas, researching, scripting, and editing.
A good editorial team member watches a lot of television, is interested in people and can build good relationships. They have a keen eye for detail and can acquire an in-depth knowledge of any subject they are tasked with. They are persuasive and demonstrate tenacity to get the job done.
Candidate Essential Experience and Skills
Enthusiasm for factual entertainment / sports or digital content- Interested in a wide variety of current television programmes and online content
- Desire to build a career in television / digital content production
- Understanding of and ability to express opinions on inclusion and representation on screen
- Curiosity about the world and people
- Competent across a range of IT software including MS Office and Outlook
- Ability to work in pressurised environments
- Ability to work collaboratively
Desirable criteria:
Good communication skills- Proactive and enthusiastic approach to working
- Experience of creating content (for social media or YouTube for example)
- Ability to generate ideas.
Technical trainee x 2
The technical team are responsible for bringing the editorial vision to TV using their core skills in a specialized area such as camera, sound, lighting, vision mixing.
A good technical team member has an in-depth knowledge of how equipment & tools work. They can listen well and work collaboratively with the editorial & production management teams. They can remain calm under pressure and have a keen eye for detail.
Candidate Essential Experience and Skills
Enthusiasm for factual entertainment / sports or digital content- Interested in a wide variety of current television programmes and / or online content
- Desire to build a career in the industry in a technical role
- Competent across a range of IT software including MS Office and Outlook
- Ability to work in pressurised environments and deal with unexpected challenges
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a team
Desirable criteria:
Good communication skills- Proactive and enthusiastic approach to working
- Experience of knowledge with cameras, sound
Location: The base for this position is Cardiff, Wales.
Working Days: This role will require a degree of flexibility and weekend working. You will be expected to work with the team to plan a schedule based on production requirements. Lieu days will be given for any days worked over a five-day week. Whisper offer the option of flexitime hours subject to production requirements.
Start: September 2023
