Job Description
Job Title Media, Performing Arts & Marketing Technician
Responsible to Head of Media
Pay Grade Grades 4-6
Hours 37 hours per week, Term Time Only (must be willing to work flexibly to support
evening performances/events as required)
Job Purpose
- Provide a comprehensive programme of knowledge, skills, and assessment of competence to students and staff in the use of photography, audio-visual, sound, lighting, and computer equipment.
- Provide support for bespoke courses and develop appropriate teaching resources.
- Provide support with the academy marketing and communication strategy across social media, online, audio-visual and print platforms.
Main duties and responsibilities
Whole School Responsibilities:
- Provide skilled assistance and guidance to students and staff in media production software and equipment
- Manage, maintain and operate audio/visual equipment throughout the school and train students and staff in its use
- Have responsibility for the public digital signage displays around the school, ensuring that they are regularly updated to reflect the academy ethos
- Under the direction of SLT, develop high quality academy information, promotional and marketing materials, including print and audio-visual production in line with Meridian brand guidelines
- To plan, direct, edit and produce the weekly whole school broadcast, in collaboration with the Head of Media and senior staff
- To produce the whole school termly newsletter
- To maintain the school’s social media accounts, ensuring that good news stories are regularly shared and that the school’s reputation is enhanced at every opportunity
- To operate the theatre lighting, PA and projection facilities in the main hall during all school performances and events
- To oversee the maintenance and use of the theatre lighting, PA and projection facilities in the main hall, training others to use them as required
- To keep staff and students abreast of current professional practice in the media and entertainment industries
- Liaise closely with SLT, performing arts and other staff as required about events and rehearsals
- Other media technical and administrative duties as required
Support in the Media Department
- Provide administrative and technical support for media teaching and learning and develop appropriate teaching resources
- To support practical media lessons for year 7-13, including whilst using the broadcast studio
- To maintain the quality and security of the media facilities and environment
- Ensure up-to-date inventories of hardware, software and ICT resources are maintained, following up any issues that may arise, disseminating information to staff and making sure equipment is disposed of in line with academy policies
- Liaise with the relevant school leaders for the purchase of ICT, AV and Media resources
Support for the School
- To complete student supervisory duties at breaks and lunchtimes in line with all support staff
- To work collaboratively with the teaching, learning support and administrative staff colleagues as required
- To take part in the performance management process of the School which evaluates performance and enables staff to take full advantage of the training and development available
- To attend staff and management meetings as required. This includes professional development days
- To be willing to assist with the supervision of students on school visits by prior arrangement and mutual agreement
- To assist with the pastoral care of students should the need arise, supporting them and signposting them to the most appropriate member of staff

Qualifications Essential Desirable
- 5 GCSE or equivalent including English or Maths. Relevant level 3 qualifications
- Experience in relevant areas of media production, especially film, TV and print media.
Experience
