Non-Smoking
The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. The City will not consider applicants who have used tobacco or nicotine products for a period of at least three months prior to application for employment. The definition of "tobacco or nicotine products" includes but is not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, pipes, snuff, e-cigarettes and nicotine patches or gum.
This is an administrative position which serves as copy writer and proofreader and is responsible for creating content for and managing the City of Delray Beach website and various social media accounts. This position is also responsible for producing, shooting and editing videos to educate the community and highlight the work of City employees. Work is performed under general supervision of the City’s Director of Communications.
* This is a Part Time position with no benefits and maximum 29 hours per week. *
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assist with management and maintenance of City’s various social media platforms and websites.- Assist with media relations and social media; present special project initiatives and results to internal and external stakeholders such as the general public, media and community groups.
- Assist in responding to emails, social media messages and other correspondence from the public and media.
- Serve as copywriter and proofreader with a strong knowledge of AP Style.
- Create content that highlight the training, personnel, and initiatives of the City of Delray Beach.
- Help create, shoot and edit videos that highlight messages and campaigns to educate residents and visitors about the City.
- Create and manage new social media marketing campaigns.
- Maintain clear communication with Director(s) and provide timely and accurate updates.
- Assist in coordinating with internal personnel to develop and release news stories to best portray City departments.
- Assist in composing speeches, public statements, and correspondence as assigned.
- Organize, coordinate, and maintain digital files.
- May be required to work after hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
- Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
- Reports to the Director of Communications.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Graphic Art, Journalism or related field.- One (1) year of work experience in a related field.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License, with a good driving record.
- Strong knowledge of principles, practices and techniques for coordinating and creating special projects.
