Who are we looking for?
As our Media and Communications Manager for the External Communications department, you will be responsible for UKAEA’s media management, press office activity and general PR. You will be involved in reputational management, daily media activity and working on regional, national and international campaigns. You'll need to bring a proven track record in PR and ability to produce accurate and qualitative work to tight deadlines.
Important to Note - There may be some occasional requirement to travel.
What will you be responsible for?
- Media management and corporate identity: the day-to-day delivery of media relations, public relations, and broader external communications, with particular responsibility for managing key press office activities.
- Be the first point of contact for all media enquiries from international to, regional and trade media outlets and providing timely and professional responses.
- Developing and nurturing strong working relationships with journalists from scientific and business media, websites and other multi-media channels, as well as analysing potential strategic partner relationships for enhanced media exposure.
- Story and/or campaign idea development, planning, and execution.
- Developing written content such as press releases and opinion pieces and managing updates to the website.
- Management of a small number of staff in the Media & Communications team to ensure there is a regular stream of qualitative, engaging, and relevant content to release.
Essential qualifications and aptitudes and experience
- A proven track record in communications/PR, and preferably in media relations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to produce accurate and qualitative work to very tight deadlines.
- Experience of working on regional, national and international PR campaigns.
- Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Capable of developing detailed PR project plans and ensuring the messaging is clear, consistent and PR materials are correctly branded.
- Experience of working with designers and external agencies.
- Collaborates effectively to ensure delivery of organisational objectives.
- Excellent multi-tasking and analytical skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable experience
- Media experience in the science or energy industries.
- An interest in energy and technology.
