Applications are invited for the above posts based within the Faculty of Engineering (PEMC Research Group) at the Jubilee Campus.
This a great opportunity be part of an expert mechanical technical team supporting the activities of the Power Electronics, Machines and Controls (PEMC) research group with the chance to utilise your considerable experience and knowledge to contribute to cutting-edge research and develop further skills along the way.
Working within a specialist technical team you will be involved in the organisation, planning and manufacture of bespoke precision parts to customer specifications.
Duties will include.
- To assist through close interaction with researchers, academics and the specialist mechanical team in the design, build, manufacture and testing of precision mechanical parts which make up integral components of bespoke low/ high speed motors. This will involve the use of a wide range of toolroom equipment such as manual/CNC milling machines, EDM, lathes and pillar drills.
- The construction and modification of a wide range of test rigs and fixtures, including motor drive testing systems. This will involve specification, pricing and purchasing of appropriate components.
- Construction of individually designed electrical motors for research development.
- Providing technical advice to both academics and researchers in relation to the safe operation of the group’s electrical research rigs.

You should have one of the following:
- BTEC Higher National Certificate/Diploma in a relevant subject.
OR
- Equivalent vocational qualifications plus substantial relevant technical/research experience.
OR
- Considerable work experience in a relevant technical or research role.
You should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of toolroom practices with previous experience of working within a toolroom environment desirable.
You will have the ability to show attention to detail, manage your own time effectively and rise to the challenge this fantastic opportunity presents.
