Job description
We are looking to appoint an experienced, committed, and enthusiastic technician to provide dedicated support in our Mechanical Engineering workshops. This involves supporting students and staff in use of specialist equipment, undertaking bespoke projects, and playing a key role in instructional activities.
About you
You will have a well-grounded understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles, and the relevant experience enabling you to pass on this knowledge to our students in a practical setting.
You will be fluent in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and be a confident user of Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) for design and manufacture. As an excellent communicator you will be able to explain technical issues to those less experienced and be adept at tackling a wide range of design and manufacturing challenges.
Exciting work you will do
In this role you will aid students in the manufacture of experimental equipment, innovative products and assign based artefacts, assist colleagues with the delivery of workshop student inductions, and will be working alongside academic colleagues on a variety of research and enterprise projects.
The skills and experience you will need to be successful
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing engineering discipline, plus significant experience of working in a relevant technical / scientific field.
or
Substantial professional/industrial experience in a Mechanical Engineering/ Manufacturing field, demonstrating personal development through involvement in progressively more demanding work/roles.

This is a full-time permanent post, the basic working week will be 35 hours, worked from Monday to Friday; typically, 9.00am to 5.00pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day.
