Job description
The Mechanical Engineering Intern role will experience rugged product development on a selection of Military & Aerospace projects. This is a 12 month internship, and applicants should be studying towards a relevant sandwich degree that recognises a 12 month industrial placement.
Role Description
During the 12 months, you will be working within the Mechanical Engineering Team to support New Product Introductions (NPI’s) which will involve designing Mechanical Solutions and optimizing for size, weight and thermal performance for rugged embedded systems. You will be working on real engineering projects not “intern busy work/projects”. You will gain knowledge of design tools and processes including: SolidWorks for design and analysis, and hands on experience in the thermal and vibration testing of electronics. You will be working with Product Managers, Hardware, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineers throughout the design process utilising your organisational and team working skills to ensure the product functions to specification. This is a great opportunity be part of a team and to see products from concept to design completion.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Studying at least 2nd year stage on a Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or similar degree with an interest in Heat transfer/thermodynamics
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of an integrated team
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity of using SolidWorks or a similar package would be good to have but not essential
- Numerical analysis skills, using hand calcs and simple FEA/CFD (not essential)
- A good academic record and hands one practical experience will be looked upon favorably
- A good understanding of designing parts for manufacture
