SLR Recruitment are seeking a Ferry Mechanical Technician to join the maintenance team with our client in Torpoint on a permanent basis.
This is a challenging, energetic and safety critical role in a fast paced, unique environment You must be able to adhere to current health and safety regulations and safe systems of work completing clear and concise accident and incident reports as required.
You will be required to support, coach and mentor the Technical Apprentice. You will also be required to provide specialist technical training to the Mechanical Assistant Trainers for the safe and correct operation of the on board mechanical systems. Demonstrable effective communication skills, both verbally and written, are essential.
About you:
In the first instance, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Completion of a relevant engineering apprenticeship.
- HNC Level 3 / C&G Engineering Levels 1,2 &3.
- Experience of working in a Marine Maintenance/Repair or similar environment.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of Health and Safety practises, Safe Systems Of Work and regulations.
- Attention to detail including accurate record keeping, report writing, presentation of maintenance records.
- Good IT skills, fluent in Microsoft word / Excel / Teams.
- Ability to prioritise own workload and to meet timescales.
- Pro-active and assertive team player, with a positive can do attitude.
- Understand the importance of the Ferry service to the local community and the wider economy.
Additional Skills / Requirements:
- To occasionally work outside normal working hours on specific tasks as directed by the Leading Hand Mechanical Technician/Technical Manager.
- To respond to out of hours emergency call-outs.
- Climb steep and narrow stairs as well as access low and confined spaces.
- A thorough working knowledge of complex engineering workshop machinery and safety precautions.
- Ability to undertake Welding and Fabricating as required.
- A thorough understanding of the interpretation of engineering drawings and the ability to manufacture accurate components from them.
Salary: £29,943 – £34,046 per annum – 37 hours per week with 5.5 hours contracted overtime - total 42.5 hours per week – 0700 – 1600 including 30 minutes for lunch
There are opportunities for overtime but this is not guaranteed. There is also some out of hours working periodically and occasional call outs which attracts additional payments.
